    FACIAL HAIR

Learning those techniques is a must for anyone willing to become a film make-up artist, so much they are needed in the industry.

Each module is independant, yet chronology has its meaning, and one only will be able to work with real hair only when one learnt the basics with wool crepe, and know what must be done and how to get it.

NOTICE : NEW 2021 CONCENTRATED FORMULA

In order to make things easier to students, I succeeded to set up a new super concentrated 2021 formula assembling in 2 weeks what was previously done in 3.

This New Concentrated Formula includes :

    • The facial hair theory

    • A study on the required equipment

    • Initiation to facial hair (wool crepe)

    • Advanced facial hair (real hair)

    • The "floated-off" technique

Do not hesitate to ask me informations or subscribe (I teach in english as well as french)

Ventilation (2 weeks) and Stubble and very short beards (2 weeks) remain separate modules because of the time needed by students to practice when they are not yet used to the techniques.

Please check here under details on new 2021 programs

To prepare, recover, re-use several times a laid-on beard

Even if you already can't hand lay facial hair, this training course will enable you, thanks to a technique taught me by the best make-up artists and well in use then in the 60s-70s, to prepare ahead of time a large number of facial hair pieces either for a single principal or a large crowd cheaper for the production, which is very appreciated considering the cost of ventilated pieces from a wigmaker.

Indeed, thys system can be used on screen and on stage, as well as, at times, in town.
Such a training sessions pays for itself when you bring home such lovely pieces you won't have to pay for on a shooting.

An example of a floated-off transferred beard on "L'Erreur"

(Click to enlarge and launch the diaporama)

Thibault's character at 20, young and handsome
Same Thibault's character at 25. Hair loss and still clean shaved.
Now, still 25, but beard stubble
At the end of the 25 period he pinched one eye. At 30, a full beard grew and the scar remains (will be covered by a blindfold)
The character at 30 : Full hand laid beard and moustache.
Françoua, Thibault's double : Thibault's beard was transferred onto him without any damage.

    Transferring a laid-on beard

On this interesting short movie, I had to take the character from a handsome 20 to a photo-obsessed 25, then to a 30 y.o. Robinson Crusoe-like look when he died at the very moment he was reaching his lifetime goal, the "perfect photo". The hand-laid beard on the actor, Thibaud, was then fully "floated off" and transferred onto his double, François, for a 2-shot.

Since the pinched eye was supposed to be hidden, I did not work too much on its make-up, but the appliance was needed so that the eye volume wouldn't show under the blindfold.

     Module 5 : Ventilating (Knotting)

This training-session will teach you to do quality generic (crowd) and custom-made (principals) facial hair pieces .

    You will learn to prepare the different tools, your hairs, your patterns and your nets, for screen and stage ;

how to ventilate moustaches, sideburns, eyebrows, chin pieces and beards : of course, the final result will depend on your speed at work, but that will come little by little.

You will also learn how to trim, curl and style the pieces you'll have done…
