This pseudo Alien, in fact a man supposed to come back from our future, 4800 AC, had to walk amongst discotheques audiences. The huge (2,8 l.) one piece foam latex false skull had to be invisible and applied by the magician's wife all along a long tour in the South of France.
Not easy to design, but it worked out OK.
The disk envelope picture was later sent me by the artist himself as a souvenir of this funny session, but I can't help remember the magazine where this article and photos were collected. Should you recognize your job, let me know and I'll quote you with pleasure, or take it out according to your wish…
Another improvised big make up artist feast : those 3 Orcs for a short film.
It was one of those too rare opportunities to do such makeups, but everybody was happy : director, actors, and us, 4 makeup artists, of course.
Let's hope we'll have soon more opportunities to do more makeups of this kind in France and in better conditions !
Richard GOTAINER, for his C.D. "La nuit Papou"
Some interesting and funny rare things about this project : sculpting the nose with holes in it to hold the teeth (real ones, please…), and getting bones pieces from my butcher and boiling them before inserting them in the earlobes… Fun !…
Jean ROUGERIE, director of this play, asked me for a special re-usable mask that the actress, Valérie DELBORRE, could apply herself in a quick (± 10 mn.) backstage makeup change. I designed this foam latex mask for her and she only had to paint some black around her eyes after a summary glueing, the side edges being hidden by her hair and gown.
On stage, it worked out fine.
It would demand much more time (and budget) to do this makeup properly for screen.
For this TV broadcast for TF1, live from the
Festival du Film Fantastique d'Avoriaz
those makeups were "improvised" on location during 3 very long shooting days (instead of 5, due to weather conditions) with my stock pieces and rented wigs.
One must always be able to get by with what is available, according to the circumstances. A real feast, despite tension and fatigue.
